Michigan Open Enrollment Dates and Deadlines

Michigan doesn't run its own exchange. Instead, residents shop on HealthCare.gov, which sets these dates.
DateWhat happens in Michigan
November 1, 2026Shopping opens for 2027 plans
December 15, 2026Deadline for coverage that starts January 1
January 15, 2027Last day to enroll; coverage starts February 1
Waiting past December 15 can leave you without coverage for January. So plan to finish early, especially if you need to switch insurers. Our open enrollment health insurance guide explains the national changes, and our open enrollment checklist lists what to gather.

What's Changing in the Michigan Marketplace

Michigan's insurer lineup is steady this year. That follows a rough 2026, when HAP CareSource, Molina and UM Health Plan left the exchange.

Insurers Selling Plans for 2027

  • Ambetter from Meridian
  • Blue Care Network of Michigan
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan
  • McLaren Health Plan
  • Oscar
  • Priority Health
  • UnitedHealthcare Community Plan
Coverage areas differ by county, so your choices may be shorter than this list. Meanwhile, Centene says Ambetter is adding Michigan counties for 2027, according to Healthcare Dive.

Rate Changes by Insurer

Michigan's individual market rates rise about 14.5% on average before subsidies. Here is what each insurer requested, per healthinsurance.org.
InsurerRequested average change
Priority Health+11.1%
Oscar+11.9%
Blue Care Network+12.5%
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan+12.9%
McLaren+16.3%
Meridian (Ambetter)+24.4%
UnitedHealthcare+25.5%
Because of these gaps, last year's best value may not win again. For example, a plan that rose 25% could now cost more than a rival's. That is why auto-renewing without a look can cost you. Read what to check before your plan renews first.

How Subsidies Work in Michigan Now

Michigan expanded Medicaid through the Healthy Michigan Plan. As a result, adults who earn up to 138% of the poverty level usually qualify for it. Above that line, Marketplace tax credits help pay your premium. In 2026, subsidized Michigan enrollees paid about $127 a month on average. Also, about 38% got cost sharing reductions on silver plans. However, the 400% income cap returned after the extra federal help expired.
Household size138% (Healthy Michigan line)400% (subsidy cap)
1 person$22,025$63,840
2 people$29,863$86,560
3 people$37,702$109,280
4 people$45,540$132,000

Based on 2026 federal poverty guidelines used for 2027 coverage. Just over the cap? Lowering your taxable income can bring the credit back. Our guide to the ACA subsidy cliff walks through how.

If You Miss the Michigan Open Enrollment Deadline

After January 15, Marketplace plans require a qualifying life event. Common ones include losing job coverage, getting married or moving. See our special enrollment period guide for the full list. No life event? Then consider short-term health insurance from UnitedHealthcare, which Vivna sells in Michigan. It can bridge a gap, though it is not ACA coverage.
