Know Before You Shop

🧭 Why Health Insurance Plans by State Are Different

Federal rules set the floor for every ACA plan. However, each state adds its own layer on top. As a result, the same family can see very different choices in two states.

Our licensed agents know the rules in all 48 states we serve. So call 888-730-6001, and we will explain exactly how your state works. You can also read our health insurance FAQs.

🏛️ Marketplace Platform

Most states use HealthCare.gov. Meanwhile, 21 states and Washington, D.C. run their own marketplace website. Either way, every plan follows the same ACA rules.

💲 Extra State Savings

Federal tax credits apply in every state. In addition, some states add their own help, such as California, New Jersey, and New Mexico. So two families with the same income can pay different prices.

🏥 Medicaid Expansion

Forty states and Washington, D.C. expanded Medicaid to more low-income adults. However, ten states have not. In those states, some adults fall into a coverage gap.

⚖️ State Coverage Mandates

There is no federal penalty for going uninsured. Still, California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Washington, D.C. charge their own penalty. So residents there should keep coverage all year.

⏱️ Short-Term Plan Rules

Each state decides whether short-term plans can be sold, and for how long. Therefore, short-term and Tri-Term plans are only offered in approved states. First, our agents confirm your state.

🤝 Carriers and Networks

Every carrier picks its own states and counties. For example, a carrier may sell in one county but not the next. That is why local guidance matters so much.
