It’s been said to me that all I have to do is get up and go for a walk every day to get in better health.  I know “they” are right.  I just happen to enjoy impact sports like Krav Maga, Martial Arts, Boxing, Kickboxing, etc.  To me, it keeps the workout more interesting, and competitive.  I know this isn’t for everyone, and trust me, I’ve taken some lick’s in the past, and they were painful for sure.  My wife, on the other hand, loves to go for the daily walk around lunchtime.  She’s gone for an easy hour, walking the dog, and clearing her head while she gets a little exercise.

From a health and life longevity perspective, walking and exercise in general can profoundly impact your life insurance rates and health insurance rates, and your acceptance for that matter.  So the basics of walking can help you save money on those monthly bills when thinking about the quality of life and family, from a financial outlay perspective.

Impact sports aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, so let’s start talking about walking…

The first and likely most important benefit of taking up the habit of walking is the potential for weight loss…  Walking, like all exercise, helps you burn stored calories.  Now depending on your existing weight, level of activity, how long and how far you walk, including other factors, will depend on how many calories you will burn.

In addition to taking up walking as an exercise and hobby, you will want to take a look at how you eat and what you eat daily.  Meaning, if you eat a bacon cheeseburger two times a week and eat wings twice a week, you’ll probably have to make a change and ingest different types of calories and fats vs. the more savory.  Now, going cold turkey on your diet may not be smart either.  Your body gets used to what it consumes, so start slowly.  Replace wings with a grilled chicken salad with light oil & vinegar.  This way your body still gets its protein, you eat additional nutrients, and you’ve replaced one or two meals a week without shocking your system.  You may notice you even feel better after a couple of weeks of this.

Before you know it, you will have changed your entire diet, and be eating healthier.  All of this occurs by simply deciding to go walking every day to improve your health.
